"You Can Help Put Smiles Back On Our Faces"
New Life Children's Home Sponsoring Program Q & A
Answer: It is an opportunity for individuals and/or groups such as Churches, Sunday school
classes, and youth groups to become personally involved with a child in need.
By contributing a financial gift to the Home each month, a person or group becomes
a sponsor and is able to be a special friend to a homeless child.
Question: What does it cost to be a sponsor?
Answer: For as little as the cost of a cup of coffee a day, you can become a partner in the
Child Sponsorship Program. A sponsor agrees to send a monthly gift of $20, or more
each month. The sponsor is also asked to pray specifically for a particular child and
to send him or her an occasional letter, or even a small gift on special occasions.
Question: Does the money given each month by the sponsor go directly to the
child?
Answer: The money given in behalf of "your child" is used to provide for the everday needs
of the child; including his or her clothing and educational and medical needs. Your
contribution is tax deductible and all checks should be made payable to New Life
Children's Home with "your child's" name in the lower left hand corner. Any gift
above your monthly gift will need to be marked personal.
Question: Can I choose the child I sponsor?
Answer: A sponsor may select the age of the child to be sponsored; however, for the best
interest of all, the Home for Children would prefer selecting a child with the greatest
need.
Question: What information will I be given about "my child"?
Answer: You will be given a profile of the child you sponsor along with information about the
child's background, his or her special interests and certain other information that will
allow you to become acquainted with "your child". However, in order to protect the
privacy of the children in our care, names and certain data may be changed. If the
child corresponds with you, they may share whatever information they choose.
Question: Can I visit in person at the Home with the child I sponsor or have
the child visit in my home?
Answer: Depending on the circumstances of the particular child, a sponsor may be allowed to
visit with the child. And, in some cases, a child might be able to visit in your home.
There are certain legal restrictions that might prelude in-person visits or over-night
visits away from the Home. Such matters must be discussed with the child's case
manager, which is a staff member at the Home.
Question: Are the children at the Home available for adoption?
Answer: For the most part, the boys and girls at the Home are not legally available for
adoption. However, some of our children are adoptable.
Question: What may I expect in the way of response from the child I sponsor?
Answer: The child you sponsor will respond to any mail he/she receives from you. Please
remember that some children are quite young and others are limited in their ability
to write or to express themselves.
Question: What happens if the child I am sponsoring should leave the Home's
care?
Answer: It is quite likely that sooner or later a child in the Home's care will leave and be
returned to relatives or some other more permanent setting. The average length of
stay varies drastically. However, we do have some children who will be here for long
time. When a child you are sponsoring leaves the Home, we will let you know and will
offer you the opportunity to sponsor another child in need.
Question: What should I do if I should become unable to continue sponsoring
a child?
Answer: If for some reason you or your group should be unable to continue to sponsor a child,
please notify us in writing. We will then reassign that child to another sponsor just as
one is available.
Question: How can I best help "my child"?
Answer: You can best help the child you sponsor by doing two things:
(1) Pray regularly for the child. The children have suffered a great deal of hurt and they
need a great deal of healing and hope. You can be a channel of God's blessings
through your prayers.
(2) Make your monthly contributions faithfully. As a non-profit charitable organization, we
we depend entirely upon people like you to finance this ministry. Your monthly
contributions will greatly assist us in providing for the needs of the child you sponsor
